Policy Regarding “Partial Certification” Temporarily Suspended

At their June 2005 meeting, the FSC International Board of Directors approved a revised policy regarding forest management partial certification, entitled “FSC policy in relation to the implementation of FSC Criterion 1.6 by Forest Management Enterprises.” The issue of “partial certification” had been discussed several times by the FSC Board of Directors and by the FSC membership at the 2002 General Assembly.

The policy aims to address the issue of whether a forest management company (or group of companies) should be permitted to have part of its overall forest estate certified. Other parts would not be FSC-certified.

Due to unforeseen technical implementation issues with the recent revisions, the FSC Board of Directors made the decision to temporarily suspend the revised policy FSC-POL-20-002 until further notice. FSC accredited certification bodies are at a minimum required to implement the former partial certification requirements as outlined in FSC-POL-20-002, May 2002.
