Natural Rubber Driving Responsible Forestry
Between 2000-2015, more than 19,000 square miles of tropical forest was cleared to make way for rubber plantations, an area the size of Costa Rica. Since natural rubber largely comes from Southeast Asia, many of the forests lost were among the most biodiverse in the world, home to orangutans, tigers, gorillas and other endangered species.
Recently, FSC-certified rubber has been growing – both supply and demand. With companies such as Agriac, Hunter Boots, lululemon, Clark’s, BMW and Patagonia driving demand.
Recently, FSC’s work on natural rubber was highlighted in Sustainable Brands. Read it here: https://sustainablebrands.com/read/supply-chain/na […]
