Southern US forests: A resource worth protecting

Covering just two percent of the earth’s total forest area, the US South’s forests produce 18 percent of its pulpwood. They are also a center of biodiversity in North America, providing habitat for thousands of species of plants, animals, birds and more. But what is the current state of these forests?
