FSC-US Holds First Regional Forum in the Pacific Northwest

Regional Forum in the PNW

More than 100 representatives from the FSC community converged in Portland, Oregon, on October 21 to take part in the inaugural FSC Pacific Northwest Forum. The forum brought together Forest Management and CoC certificate holders, FSC members, certifying bodies and other partners for a day of information-sharing, networking, strategizing and celebrating FSC's mission and growth. The FSC Pacific Northwest Initiative, which aims to significantly expand FSC certification in the region, was also announced at the gathering.

We were also pleased to name two regional leaders — one non-profit and one business — as our first "FSC Pacific Northwest Champions." The Champions Award is given to FSC partners who represent visionary leadership in advancing FSC's mission and demonstrate outstanding support of and dedication to the work of FSC-US. This year's recipients are:

 • The Collins Companies — An FSC pioneer, The Collins Companies was the first privately held forest products company in the United States to be evaluated for FSC certification. Today, all the company's major forests are FSC-certified. Through the years, Collins has provided leadership to FSC through engagement on the FSC-US Board of Directors and a handful of technical committees, including the Pacific Coast Standards Development Committee, and has generously supported various initiatives. Collins has played a key role in communicating the FSC story and creating value for the FSC brand regionally, nationally and internationally. www.collinswood.com
 • Northwest Natural Resource Group — A nonprofit organization leading the charge in the Pacific Northwest to accelerate the uptake of FSC across the supply chain and among businesses of all size, NNRG has pioneered initiatives around Group Certification and markets for ecosystem services. They have provided invaluable support to FSC-US through dedicated staff capacity and expertise given to the FSC-US Board of Directors, and on numerous policy and marketing initiatives. www.nnrg.org
