USGBC to Hold Green Building Conference

The U.S. Green Building Council is presenting its first annual International Green Building Conference and Exposition in Austin, TX on November 13-15, 2002.

“Designed to serve as the annual meeting place for green building professions," the USGBC expects more than 2,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors to take part.

Conference attendees will participate in a wide variety of classes and workshops, designed for those with all levels of experience in green building. Many of these workshops will focus on the Leadership in Energy and Environmen-tal Design (LEED) certification system. The inclusion of FSC certified wood is an important part of the LEED system, and has caused a noted increase in the specification of FSC wood among builders and architects.

At the Exposition, approximately 200 exhibitors will demonstrate their wares. The Certified Forest Products Council (CFPC) and the FSC-US will be part of an “FSC Pavilion" of exhibitors, including the following companies: Roseburg Forest Products; Smartwood; Roy O. Martin Lumber Company; The Collins Companies; VIDA; Neil Kelly Company; Earthsource; EcoTimber; and Hampton Lumber Sales. This will provide an excellent opportunity for these manufacturers to network with builders and architects.

A membership-based organization, the USGBC is the nation's foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. Developed by the USGBC membership, the LEED system is a national consensus-based, market-driven building rating system designed to accelerate the development and implementation of green building practices.
