Success in Atlanta

By Hank Cauley

I am pleased to report that last week’s Forest Leadership Forum was a tremendous success. With close to 100 FSC certificate holders and partners exhibiting and even more in attendance, the FSC showed a very strong presence. The forest products industry is now starting to follow the FSC’s lead and has begun to place a greater focus on responsibility and accountability. The Forest Leadership Forum was an example of the ripples that have been launched by the FSC’s presence in the global forest products marketplace. I was pleased to have conversations with many of our certificate holders and other partners in attendance, and to learn that other FSC staff had similarly beneficial experiences. FSC came away with many ideas that will help strengthen our efforts in the U.S. and around the world. In the future, we will attract more and more buyers to events like the Forum.

In closing, on behalf of FSC around the world, I would like to extend emphatic congratulations to the Certified Forest Products Council and the World Wildlife Fund, the organizers of the Forum. They showcased certification as a movement with great breadth and vast potential.
