F.D. Sterritt Lumber
Started in 1841, F.D. Sterritt Lumber has adhered to a strong environmental and social ethic throughout their long history. Guided by the foresight of CEO, Jack Mackin, Sterritt Lumber began selling FSC-certified lumber in 2002 and shortly thereafter, became the first FSC-certified distributor, remanufacturer, and fire/pressure-treater of FSC-certified wood products. They chose to pursue FSC certification because of FSC’s rigorous standards and third-party verification, and because FSC is committed to responsible forest management globally.

Based on continually increasing demand for FSC-certified materials and to help serve their customers on demand, Sterritt maintains an impressive $1 million of FSC-certified lumber at their retail facility at all times. Sterritt’s distribution goes far beyond their home state of Massachusetts. In fact, Sterritt ships FSC-certified materials all over the world. Since 2002, Sterritt has supplied FSC-certified materials to projects in California, Texas, Dubai, a US military installation in Afghanistan, and hundreds of locations in between. Learn more about F.D. Columbia Forest Products
Founded in 1957, Columbia Forest Products is North America’s largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and hardwood veneer products. In 1999, Columbia’s Klamath Falls, Oregon plant began producing its plywood using logs harvested from FSC-certified forestland. Today all of Columbia’s plywood and veneer mills hold FSC Chain-of-Custody certificates. Columbia assures its customers that by buying products with an FSC label they are supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.

“FSC laid the foundation for Columbia’s recent groundbreaking innovation efforts. It led us to sell wood production in support of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® program. That’s where we learned about concerns pertaining to formaldehyde exposure in new construction. It prompted the innovation of our PureBond® soy-based assembly technology in 2006, which eliminated the use of urea formaldehyde resin systems across the entire company.” – Brad Thompson, CEO of Columbia Forest Products.

Paul Davis, Columbia Forest Products’ multi-site manager, reported that 100% of the company’s top distributors support the company’s commitment to FSC. He views this as “a remarkable accomplishment,” considering the degree of education that was needed to generate participation in green building activities and the use of sustainable products.
