As the next stage of FSC’s family forests advocacy program, we’re excited to announce the launch of the FSC Smallholder Fund.

This competitive grants process has been initiated to spur innovation among family forest advocacy organizations and assist in overcoming key hurdles to the growth of family forest certification worldwide. See the Smallholder Fund page on the FSC International website for more information and application materials.

Pre-applications are required and are being accepted through June 30th. Prospective applicants will be informed by July 31st, with full applications due August 31st.

The fund has been initiated by the FSC Board of Directors and will distribute up to $550,000 worldwide by this fall, with funding split equally among FSC’s six global regions. Approximately $90,000 USD will be distributed in the U.S. and Canada, with maximum awards of $40,000.

Any organization that is either currently FSC certified or in the process of certification, and meets FSC’s criteria as either Small and Low Intensity Managed Forests or Community Producer may apply.

Use of funds is restricted, so please read instructions carefully. Applications in the U.S. and Canada will be judged on additional, regionally specific criteria that examine the project’s ability to create influence, infrastructure, resources and/or growth beyond the applicant organization for the broader community of family forest owners.

Questions from U.S. based applicants can be directed to Ian Hanna, Director of Business Development, at i.hanna at us.fsc point org.
