Call for Nominations - FSC US Board of Directors

April 30, 2013

The Board of Directors of FSC-US works closely with the staff to oversee the organization, develop strategy and represent stakeholder perspectives in key decisions. FSC-US Board members also interact frequently with the staff and board members of FSC International.

As a member-led organization, FSC US relies on the Board for governance and leadership. And the fact that members elect the Board is a key differentiator of the FSC system.

Participation in the FSC-US Board takes time, critical thinking, and creativity. The Board needs individuals who represent a key constituency, and who are also willing to represent the organization’s entire membership. The time requirement for serving on the Board varies, but typically includes two (two-day) in-person meetings a year, a two-hour conference call every other month, and an average of 1-2 hours per week of committee work.

Given the opportunities and challenges ahead, we are especially interested in adding new Board members with experience in marketing and market development, fundraising, ecosystem service markets, the paper industry, communications, consumer products and retail.

FSC-US is currently asking for nominations for three open board positions (one economic, one social, one environmental). The elected FSC-US Board members whose terms are expiring are:

  • Paul Davis (Columbia Forest Products, economic chamber)
  • John Gunn (SIG-NAL, environmental chamber)
  • Lynn Jungwirth (Watershed Research and Training Center, social chamber)

Both John Gunn and Lynn Jungwirth are eligible for nomination and re-election to the Board.

Process:
Only FSC members, duly designated FSC representatives of member organizations in the U.S., or applicants for membership in good standing can be nominated for election to the FSC-US Board.

The call for nominations and seconds (two needed) is open from today, May 1st to June 14th, 2013. Nominations and seconds may be made on behalf of individuals from any chamber. Self-nominations (with required seconds) are acceptable.
