Kimberly-Clark Professional’s Commitment to Sustainability Continues to Grow

Kimberly-Clark, a leader in health and hygiene products, has long been developing its sustainability guidelines, which include a strong preference for FSC-certified fiber.

As the largest supplier of FSC-certified towel and tissue products in North America, Kimberly Clark’s goals for responsible wood fiber sourcing continue to expand, as does their relationship with the Forest Stewardship Council. Currently, almost 97% of their towel and tissue productsare FSC-certified.

Recently, Kimberly-Clark announced plans to source 50 percent of its fiber from fast-growing, non-forest sources by 2025. Because the world population continues to grow rapidly, with demand for Kimberly-Clark products following suit, over time this commitment will help reduce pressure on finite forest resources, while still maintaining a preference for FSC certified fiber from forests.

Kimberly-Clark has set a goal of purchasing 100 percent of the wood fiber they use from certified sources, “with a preference for FSC-certified fiber.” By the end of 2010, they were 98 percent of the way to their goal. In 2011, Kimberly-Clark announced it was expanding its membership in WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network to cover all wood fibers sourced for all products in Personal Care, Consumer Tissue and professional divisions globally.
