FSC International Director General to Step Down at the End of 2012

On February 21, 2012, the board of directors of the Forest Stewardship Council International announced that Andre de Freitas will step down at the end of 2012.

This carefully planned transition will ensure FSC is able to identify a strong new leader and keep important projects moving forward. In fact, an executive search committee of the FSC International board has already begun the process of recruiting a new leader, working to identify someone with strong business management experience in the sustainability field.

As Andre said in the announcement, “we have much to accomplish yet this year and will not miss a beat during this transition phase.”

Under Andre’s leadership over the past four years, FSC has grown by more than 85 million acres and 13,000 companies, now operating in more than 100 countries. FSC-US congratulates him for his years of hard work and leadership, and we look forward to working with Andre for the remainder of his tenure to continue growing the organization.
