The new music series was developed to feature instruments made from certified and reclaimed woods in order to:• Increase the visibility of the companies and instrument builders dedicated to using non-threatened, certified and reclaimed timbers in their instruments; and• Give musicians a chance to play a high quality FSC certified or reclaimed wood instrument in order to raise the awareness of the instruments and educate the general public on current issues surrounding conservation and developments in sustainable forestry. The series will take place the last Tuesday of every month, beginning November 13, 2001 at the Historic Sweetwater Saloon, in Mill Valley, CA. SoundWood UK is in the process of developing the series in London, England starting in mid 2002.“We have put together an awesome House Band and will have many guest artists as well as speakers from various NGO’s and relevant industries. The SoundWood Jam will definitely be a favorite night out for musicians and music lovers across the Bay Area," says Robert Garner, U.S. Program Director for SoundWood.Musicians will be provided with a featured certified wood instrument. There will be an explanation of the woods that were used to make the instrument, the certification process and information about the company or builder. The Jam will feature instruments from Modulus Guitars, Martin Guitars, Gibson Guitars, and Drum Solo. SoundWood looks forward the active participation of the FSC community. Instrument manufacturers that use wood from responsibly managed forests are encouraged to contact SoundWood to showcase your instruments.
