FSC-U.S. Board of Directors Nominations to Open in April for Three Available Seats

FSC-US will begin this year’s Board elections process with a call for nominations beginning on April 18th and closing May 20th. Voting will be held June 1-24, and new Directors will ultimately take office on August 1st.

The Board of FSC-US works closely with the President to ensure effective financial oversight of the organization and with the senior management team to develop strategic objectives, tactics, and policies. The FSC-US Board needs strong leaders and team players during this period of increasing competitive pressure, high expectations of FSC stakeholders and steady growth. Furthermore, FSC International’s leadership relies on strong national initiatives, such as in the U.S., to help build a stronger FSC worldwide.

Given the opportunities and challenges ahead, the Board is especially interested in adding new Board members with experience in:
• Marketing
• Fundraising
• Serving on non-profit boards
• Strategic planning and policy development

Participation in the FSC-US Board takes time, thought, and creativity. The FSC with its three-chambers and representational system of governance is unlike most other private or non-profit Boards. Capable individuals who want the reward of helping to lead a cutting-edge organization in a dynamic environment should consider running for the Board. The Board needs individuals who represent a key constituency, and who are also willing to represent the membership of the whole organization. The time requirement for serving on the Board varies, but typically includes two or three in-person meetings a year, a one-hour conference call every month, and one to two hours per week of “general” Board work.

The Director’s whose terms are expiring are Phil Guillery (Dovetail Partners Inc., Social Chamber), Michael Leahy (Defenders of Wildlife, Environmental Chamber), and Mark Comolli (Forestworld Group, Economic Chamber). Leahy and Comolli are eligible for re-election based on FSC-US bylaws. However, Guillery has served two full terms and is not eligible re-election.

To be eligible for nomination, a person must be either an individual member of FSC, the designated representative for an organizational member of FSC, or an applicant for membership in good standing. Please note that being a member is not the same affiliation as being a certificate holder. Directors also cannot be the representatives of certification bodies.

Current members will begin receiving elections materials via email by April 18th. If you have questions about the election process, membership, or would like to apply for membership in FSC, please contact Katie Miller at kmiller@fscus.org.
