RR Donnelley Receives Certification for 17 Facilities

Multi-Site Certification is Most Comprehensive in U.S.

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (NYSE: RRD) announced last month that it received multi-site chain-of-custody (COC) certification for all of its U.S. magazine, catalog, retail insert and directory printing plants. This certification expands upon the COC certification that two RR Donnelley facilities received earlier this year. Scientific Certification Systems provided the certification. “RR Donnelley has achieved chain-of-custody certification on a scale that no other printer has achieved,” said John Paloian, President, RR Donnelley Group Publishing and Retail Services. “We sought and received this certification because it is important to our customers and because it is consistent with RR Donnelley’s long-standing commitment to the environment. Overall, we will continue to work with suppliers and customers that support environmentally friendly forest management practices and policies advocated by the FSC and other accredited forest management certification bodies.”

Paloian added that RR Donnelley’s manufacturing expertise played a significant role in being able to rapidly achieve certification on such a broad scale. “Consistency in supply chain management is one of RR Donnelley’s strengths,” said Paloian. “Our paper tracking processes enabled us to meet chain-of-custody certification requirements simultaneously across multiple locations. We will continue to use our manufacturing expertise to work with customers to achieve increased efficiency and to protect and improve the environment.” FSC multi-site certification requires that operations covered by the certification produce or handle materials using consistent, documented methods and procedures.

Roger Dower, President of FSC-US, noted that, “we are proud of RR Donnelley for achieving such an expansive multi-site certification, and equally proud that it is evidence of the overall growth in demand for certified printing.”

With this expanded certification, RR Donnelley now has 17 facilities in 12 states with FSC COC certification.
