FSC Releases COC Policy for Larger Operations

FSC has defined guidelines for Chain of Custody (COC) certification of single legal entities with multiple sites, branches, or production facilities.

These guidelines lay out the conditions under which FSC accredited Certification Bodies (CBs) may carry out sampling of various branches or production units of an organization. The policy will allow CBs to offer competitive COC certifications to larger clientele, thus allowing bigger business (e.g. hauling operators and sawn timber suppliers) to handle certified products at all of their branches. The policy is expected to facilitate higher flow of FSC certified products into the marketplace, and a correspondingly greater volume and variety of wood products for the end user. In February, FSC headquarters announced a group COC policy for smaller operations. Both policies can be obtained by contacting Simon Mitchell at intern2@fscoax.org.
