International Paper to Triple FSC Sourcing by 2015; Joins GFTN

April 2, 2013

As part of a March 25th press release announcing that it had joined WWF’s Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN), International Paper (IP) announced that it “has increased its sourcing of Forest Stewardship Council certified fiber by more than 1.2 million tons over the past five years, and expects to triple that increase by the end of 2014.”

As a new member of GFTN, IP will initially focus on forest sources for its North American and Brazilian mills, which represents more than 2/3 of its global fiber volume. IP’s release emphasized its successful model for increasing its supply of FSC-certified fiber in the Southeastern United States.

As a member of GFTN, International Paper will join more than 200 other companies committed to increasing use of and demand for products from responsibly managed forests. IP’s initial commitment will include 24 mills with a collective volume of more than 17 million metric tons annual.
