A Year-end Greeting to the FSC Community

As we come to the end of this year, it is reassuring to look back on the activities that we have participated in and the things that we have accomplished. At FSC we have been fortunate to partake in some great successes. We are now well into our third year in Washington DC and have started a successful office on the west coast.

Through collaborative efforts between our partners and staff, we have seen continued growth in the momentum of FSC. We saw our first set of regional standards completed thanks to our foresters and the Rocky Mountain Working Group. Several studies comparing us to our competitors have resulted in the acknowledgement of our standards as the gold standard for environmental and social responsibility. Our certifiers have issued over 100 new chain-of-custody certificates in the US, with The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Andersen Corporation all continuing to give buying preference to FSC-certified vendors.

The FSC brand is stronger than ever, in its integrity and its reach.

In the new year we look forward to building on our current partnerships and also adding some new ones. Of the remaining standards in development, most will be complete by next summer. We are poised for the next challenges with a strong and well-balanced board of directors, which holds a wealth of experience and expertise, and most importantly, dedication to the FSC.

So in closing, FSC-U.S. staff would like to wish everybody happy safe holidays and luck in 2002. We look forward to working with you.
