Course Title: Mastering FSC-Certified Wood inGreen Building - WEBINAR

Course Description:
Demand for FSC-certified building materials increases every day. With the recent launch of LEED v4 by U.S. Green Building Council members, the FSC marketplace has a renewed sense of certainty and momentum. Though wood products are rewarded by LEED in many ways, FSC remains the only recognized forest products certification standard. Other FSC market drivers, such as high volume use by major retailers, residential green building programs throughout the country, and the Living Building Challenge make sourcing and using FSC-certified materials easier all the time. The journey from specification to sourcing of building products can be long and complex. Through this course, you will learn why FSC products are important, how they integrate with broader green building standards, and how to find the products you’re looking for.

Learning Objectives:
1. Explain why Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood is key to green building, and why building professionals play an important role in promoting good forest management and conservation in North America and beyond.
2. Describe the fundamentals of a leading forest certification system with benefits for LEED certification.
3. Discuss the new rules for how FSC-certified wood works in the LEED green building rating system, clarify the differences between LEED 2009 standards and LEED v4 as it relates to FSC, and understand how FSC is credited in other leadership green building programs in North America.
4. Identify the tools, strategies and resources that green building professionals can use to encourage market transformation to sustainability of the forest products industry.
