Transitory Requirement Advice Notes

On November 23, 2010 FSC-International issued three advice notes: two related to FSC-STD-40-004 v2-0 and one related to FSC-STD-40-005 V2-1.

The FSC-DIR-40-004 contains ADVICE 40-004-03 that explains the transitory requirement moving chip and fiber products from a 50% minimum to a 70% minimum in order for that specific product to carry the FSC label. All current FSC-certified chip and fiber manufacturers have until March 31, 2011 to register their products with their certification body. If registered, those products can carry the FSC label if they meet the 50% minimum until December 31, 2015. All non-registered products must meet the 70% minimum by April 1, 2011 in order to carry the FSC label.

ADVICE 40-004-04 explains that FSC-certified products that contain co-products that are registered by March 31, 2011 are exempted from the Controlled Wood requirements until December 31, 2012. Any non-registered co-product must meet the Controlled Wood requirements by April 1, 2011 in order to be mixed into an FSC certified product.
