FSC-STD-40-004a V2-0: FSC Product Classification
The FSC Product Classification Standard, which relates to FSC-STD-40-004 FSC Chain of Custody Certification standard, has been updated. The revised standard and classifications go into effect by June 1, 2012.
According to the revised classification, product groups may be defined using the product types in level 1, level 2, or level 3 as long as the product groups established meet the “product group’ definition in 40-004, meaning that the product types included in each product group share similar specifications relative to quality of inputs and conversion factors.
FSC International is automatically changing the product codes in the database this month. FSC has also provided a cross-reference table, which shows how the product codes are being transitioned in the FSC database. Note that due to the differences in the two classifications, several products may be placed in the closest or broadest category, so Certificate Holders are encouraged to review and update their relevant product groups. During annual audits, Certificate Holders are expected to present their auditor with an updated product group list, which the Certification Bodies will update in the FSC database.
