Draft FSC-US Family Forest Standard Open for Public Comment in September
A key component of the current process to revise the FSC-US Forest Management Standard is the development of family forest-specific indicators and guidance. (“Family forests” are defined by FSC as being 2,470 acres or less).
In some places in the Forest Management Standard, a different set of requirements is being proposed for these small non-industrial private forests, to take into account the practical and economic realities of such operations without reducing the rigor of compliance with the FSC Principles & Criteria.
In the first week of September, the draft Family Forest Standard will be released for the first 60-day public comment phase; all relevant documents will be posted to the FSC-US website at that time. We encourage you to participate in this revision process by providing comments on the draft Family Forest Standard.
