The Yale Forest Forum -- Marketing Certification

On September 24, the Yale School of Forestry and the Environment held its first Forest Forum of the academic year — the topic, “Marketing Certified Forest Products: Linking Forest Management and Markets." Speakers were Samuel Doak, executive vice president of the Certified Forest Products Council (CFPC), Suzanne Mangino, manager of the American Forest and Paper Association’s Office of Label Use and Licensing, Abraham Guillen, market development manager of the Trees Program of the Rainforest Alliance’s Smartwood Program, and Eric Hansen, associate professor of forest products marketing at Oregon State University’s College of Forestry. read more …

FSC A Natural for Audubon Center

Audubon CenterThe Audubon Center of the North Woods in Sandstone, MN already had FSC-certified baseboards and trim around windows and doors, so it was only natural that the educational center chose to feature a new display on FSC-certified forestry and forest products. The center, on the shores of Grindstone Lake, recently held its fall celebration, a time when families and children visit the center to see what’s new. read more …

FSC-U.S. Nearing Completion of Regional Standards

Allan Waelchli Consulting Forestry Awarded Forest Management Certification

The Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood Program granted forest management certification to Allan Waelchli Consulting Forestry (AWCF) in early July. The firm located in Shawano, WI serves several Northeastern and Central counties. With Allan Waelchli and his strong forest stewardship philosophy at the helm, the firm has operated for more than 19 years and currently manages approximately 30,550 acres of privately owned forestland. Included in this figure are the 9,942 acres of certified forest, comprised predominantly of aspen/birch, white, jack, and red pine, pin and red oak, northern hardwood and hemlock. read more …
