Fountain Forestry Becomes FSC-Certified Resource Manager

The SmartWood program of the Rainforest Alliance recently announced that Fountain Forestry has been granted Resource Manager certification under the FSC. Fountain is now the largest FSC-certified Resource Manager in the Eastern U.S., with 35 properties in New Hampshire, Vermont and New York included in the certificate. Property sizes range from less than 44 to 26,859 acres and total 67,547 acres. read more …

FSC Holds Third General Assembly in Oaxaca

From November 22-26, FSC International held its third General Assembly (G.A.) in Oaxaca, Mexico. Held every three years, the G.A. is an opportunity for all FSC stakeholders, including National Initiatives, Working Groups, and members, to gather to discuss the state of the FSC, and for members to vote on motions for changes in FSC statutes and policy. read more …

North Carolina State Forestland Earns FSC Certification

A North Carolina State Forest totaling 32,237 acres has been FSC-certified as well-managed for environmental, social and economic viability. Bladen Lakes Forest near Elizabethtown joins Duke University’s 7,830 acre forest which was FSC-certified in 2001 and North Carolina State University’s 4,750 acre forest which is likely to finish the certification process in December 2002. DuPont State Forest near Brevard in the Southern Appalachians has also undergone a certification assessment by Smartwood and may be certified once their management plan is completed.
