Superior Offers FSC-Certified Sports Flooring
The FSC-certified sports flooring family continues to grow with the addition of Superior Floor Company, Inc., located in Wausau, Wisconsin, which recently received a chain-of-custody certification for the manufacturing of hardwood flooring systems utilizing FSC certified wood.
Superior Floor Company has always been committed to producing environmentally responsible sports floor systems. Superior incorporates the concept of sustainability by purchasing and utilizing raw materials responsibly and providing the highest standards of quality available from America’s sustainable forests. This “sustainable" philosophy continues on when discarded material left behind in the manufacturing of Superior’s strip hardwood flooring is sent on to other manufacturers who can incorporate it into pressed-wood products. Nothing is left to waste.
Superior chose to apply for FSC certification because “FSC allows us the opportunity to confirm this environmental commitment to consumers and show them we take responsibility," according to Pat Shelton of Superior Floor. Having FSC certification also allows them to work on projects where the use of certified wood is specified.
Although they primarily work with maple for sports floors, Superior Floor is also certified to manufacture American beech, black cherry, black walnut, northern red oak, white ash, white birch, white oak, and yellow birch floors. Currently, Superior is in the process of assisting with specification in several FSC certified projects and hopes to continue educating the construction community regarding this mission.
This month Action Floor Systems of Mercer, WI also received their chain of custody certification and looks forward to installing their first FSC certified floor in the near future.
