FSC ALIGNED FOR EUDR LAUNCHED JULY 3

FSC sets the international standard for responsible forestry, and is constantly working to keep the certification system relevant and robust to support compliance with emerging regulation. FSC International has been working diligently for the last 18 months to develop tools to help certificate holders respond to the requirements of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which goes into effect for most companies December 30, 2024.

FSC Aligned Certification for EUDR was released July 3 after being piloted in an early adopters program during the first half of 2024. It is comprised of two components – the FSC Regulatory Module, which supports FSC certificate holders in aligning their practices with Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR) requirements, and the FSC Risk Assessment Framework, which enables certificate holders to gauge the risk of sourcing material from supply areas and establish mitigation measures to address those identified risks.

FSC Regulatory Module Complements Existing Certification Requirements
The FSC Regulatory Module is a complementary standard to add on to existing FSC certification requirements for forest management, chain of custody, project certification, controlled wood and accreditation.

Forest management users of the FSC Regulatory Module can use FSC’s Simplified Risk Assessment Template. The Simplified Risk Assessment Template is also available for companies sourcing solely from FSC-certified forests; assuring that the additional work required to demonstrate due diligence is drastically less.

Organizations adopting the FSC Regulatory Module can make use of a Regulatory claim on sales documents for certified products signifying adherence to rigorous standards. When the whole supply chain is certified with the FSC Regulatory Module, certificate holders can make deforestation-free promotional statements.

FSC Aligned Reporting through FSC Trace Coming Soon
Due diligence reporting and statements will play a key role in adhering to the EUDR, and FSC is preparing to release the blockchain solution FSC Trace prior to the regulation going into effect.

Together, FSC Aligned Certification for EUDR and FSC Trace provide certificate holders with the best means to confidently meet the new demands for importing forest products to the European Union.
