Certificate Holder Spotlight: Trillium Pacific Millwork

By: Aubrey McCormick

Trillium Pacific Millwork was founded by a husband and wife team in 1989. In 2009 the couple sold the business to current CEO Mike Lipke, who has over 35 years’ experience in the wood products industry, including 21 years in softwood sawmill operations. Trillium Pacific Millwork provides customers with construction materials and custom products including cutting boards, island tops, siding, and more. Given that Mike understands the importance of protecting the environment for future generations, he ensured the company became FSC certified in 2009 and is proud that the company adheres to the highest standard in forest management.

“FSC is a good way to prove to people what we care about and what we stand for.”

Their business is thriving; Trillium Pacific can source most species of wood and help find FSC certified material at the same price point as non-FSC wood, making their value proposition unbeatable. When I asked Mike about the cost premium FSC often requires, he said, “It’s the cost of doing business and the way we believe materials should be taken care of and sourced.”

Most of us know that even renewable resources must be managed responsibly – so seeing business leaders like Mike succeed in a competitive marketplace is critically important – not just here in the US, but in forests and markets around the world.
