May 15-17: FSC at Living Future '13

April 2, 2013

On May 15 –17, 2013 in Seattle, International Living Future Institute (ILFI) will host Living Future 2013, which is known as “the green building movement’s leadership summit.” With strong growth in the Living Building Challenge, which includes an imperative to use 100% FSC certified or recycled/reclaimed forest products, FSC plans to have a significant presence at Living Future this year.

On May 15, Eden Brukman – formerly with ILFI and now an independent consultant – is organizing a daylong tour of FSC-certified forests. During the tour, “participants go into the woods with trained experts to get a unique firsthand experience of responsible forest management, habitat restoration, ecosystem resilience, and watershed connectivity from forest to faucet.” In addition, the day will include, “a hands-on workshop to improve the market availability of FSC certified timber and advocate for the next steps necessary to complete the chain-of-custody presence in the Puget Sound region via small landowners.” Signup for the tour here and read more here.

In addition to the tour, FSC will also have a booth at Living Future, which will be staffed by FSC US Marketplace manager Eliza Beitman. And there will be a special track focused on the Bullitt Center, including tours of the heavy timber structure, the first commercial building in the US to earn FSC Project Certification.
