A Seat at the Table at Sustainable Brands
Making the Business Case for Breakthrough Eco-Innovation
FSC US President Sarah Billig joined Amazon Head of Product & Operations Zac Ludington, who heads Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly Program, and Patagonia Provisions General Manager Paul Lightfoot at Sustainable Brands in San Diego, California in mid-October in front of more than 150 senior executives who are focused on corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
The panel was assembled for a deep dive discussion into how retailers like Amazon are partnering with best-in-class certification organizations including FSC to help brands, corporate purchasing agents, and consumers all make more sustainable decisions.
Sarah spoke about how FSC US is working with large and small retailers alike to educate customers and advocate for responsible sourcing through meaningful partnerships and collaboration with innovative initiatives like the Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly Program.
Paul shared how Patagonia Provisions and the Regenerative Organic Alliance partnered to create a massive storytelling moment for sustainable farming practices and responsible sourcing.
And, Zac presented the results of a series of independent academic studies that show a clear sales lift for more-sustainable products substantiated by credible third-parties. These demonstrate a +12% sales lift for sustainable products, and 100 million customer switches to more-sustainable products on Amazon. Zac was kind enough to present the findings again the following week to close out the inspiration panel on day one of the 2024 FSC North America Conference.
