Spotlight on Smartlam

By: Aubrey McCormick

A visit to the beautiful state of Montana wouldn't be complete without stopping by Smartlam, the first cross laminated timber (CLT) facility built in the US. After a tour of their new facility, it's apparent they are dedicated to supporting the green building industry across the US. Their world class operations and team of experts bring a collaborative approach to finding the most innovative building solutions.

Smartlam is FSC Chain-of-Custody certified and a strong presence in the state of Montana. Their product line includes floor systems, elevator and stairwell shafts, wall and roof systems, and glulam. Their two manufacturing facilities are located in Columbia Falls, MT and Dothan, AL. To learn more about the species of wood they have available, please see their website.

They are always looking for opportunities to collaborate with the local community and to reduce carbon footprints in commercial and residential buildings.

According to Casey Malmquist, CEO of Smartlam, "sustainably is the key to success and longevity of our industry." With more than 40 years of experience as a builder and developer, Casey founded the company in 2012, growing it to become a leader in the mass timber sector. Casey is a champion for FSC and continues to promote the importance of building sustainably. Click here to learn more about their practices.
