New Director of Science and Certification Joins FSC Team

The Forest Stewardship Council US is very pleased to announce that Amy Clark Eagle has joined our team as Director of Science and Certification.
Amy comes to FSC from Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), where she worked for nearly twenty years. One of her primary responsibilities at DNR was to ensure the agency maintained FSC Forest Management certification on four million acres of state-administered forestland.
A wildlife biologist by training, Amy focused on how DNR fulfilled Principles 6 (environmental impact) and 9 (maintenance of high conservation value forests) within their FSC certification. This included planning for rare species in Michigan, such as the Kirtland’s warbler, northern long-eared bat, and eastern Massasauga rattlesnake. She was also the lead for the Forest Resource division on planning for climate change, and was involved with archeological and cultural issues related to their forest management.
In her role, Amy participated in FSC audits with DNR’s certifying body, SCS Global Services. Michigan DNR’s forestlands are also SFI certified, allowing Amy to experience how the different systems operate in the forest.
Amy brings to FSC a perspective that it is possible to have economically prosperous forest management while also conserving biodiversity and protecting critical social and ecological forest values.
As Director of Science and Certification, she leads the FSC team dedicated to development and application of FSC policies and standards in the United States, including the FSC US Forest Management Standard and FSC Controlled Wood US National Risk Assessment.
Amy is a graduate of Amherst College and earned her M.S. in Wildlife Science at the University of Washington-Seattle’s College of Forest Resources. She lives outside of Lansing, Michigan and can be reached at a.eagle@us.fsc.org.
