Current and prospective members of the Four States Timberland Owners Association – which manages an FSC group certification – gathered at Domtar’s Ashdown mill on April 20th for a daylong learning exchange.

The purpose of the day was to provide an opportunity for landowners to share their knowledge and questions about FSC forest management in discussions with staff from Domtar, Staples, WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network and FSC US.

The group visited a number of sites showcasing different aspects of responsible forest management, such as high conservation value areas and streamside management zones. The landowners discussed management practices and the history of their own forest management units. At the end of the day, Domtar presented landowners with FSC signs to post on their forestlands.

The day was made possible by a grant from Domtar through WWF’s GFTN program. The purpose of the grant is to provide educational opportunities for smallholders in the Southeast and to recognize those landowners who are doing an exceptional job managing their FSC-certified forests. This visit was the second in a series made possible by the grant. You can read about the first visit here
