Disney Launches New Paper Policy

The Nature Conservancy’s Disney Wilderness Preserve

On October 11, the Walt Disney Company announced an extraordinary new “Paper Sourcing and Use Policy,” which is sure to have wide-ranging impacts in the US and around the world.

The policy furthers Disney’s commitment to responsible forest management and will be implemented across its entire global operations intwo phases, beginning first with the paper and packaging sourced directly by or on behalf of Disney, and followed by paper sourced by Disney’s some 25,000 independent licensees.

The policy emphasizes three primary objectives:

  • Minimize the consumption of paper
  • Eliminate paper products containing irresponsibly harvested fiber, such as fiber from High Conservation Value Areas
  • Maximize recycled content and fiber sourced from FSC-certified operations

“The paper policy is an example of how Disney conducts business in an environmentally and socially responsible way, and demonstrates the Company’s commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact on ecosystems and communities worldwide,” said Dr. Beth Stevens, senior vice president, Disney Corporate Citizenship, Environment and Conservation.
